The small bronze ‘radiate’ coins of the later third century (above) are very affordable with dozens of designs available and issued by dozens of emperors! They are called ‘radiates’ because the emperor is shown wearing a crown which looks like the sun’s rays.
The small bronze coins of the early fourth century are equally affordable and much more interesting as they were issued by Constantine the Great and his sons, with over thirty different reverse designs you can choose.
If you have a bigger budget, the small silver denarii (above) or the larger copper or brass coins from the first or second centuries might be the way to build up your collection.
